This is a story of boy meets girl...this is not a love story."

It has been over a week and a half since I've seen perhaps my favorite movie to date, and for exactly a week and a half I have started, stopped, erased, and restarted this post numerous times, each failing at my attempt to capture my insane love and never ending obsession with the fantastic film 500 Days of Summer.
As I posted before, I anticipated the release of this film and when that fateful day came upon which I finally got to see it, I was not disappointed. In fact, the elation I felt from watching this film cannot be put into words, nor in any appropriately lengthed blog post. To best describe the film, I must quote the opening bit, where the narrator reads, "This is a story of boy meets girl. The boy, Tom Hansen of Margate, New Jersey, grew up believing that he'd never truly be happy until the day he met the one. This belief stemmed from early exposure to sad British pop music and a total mis-reading of the movie 'The Graduate'. The girl, Summer Finn of Shinnecock, Michigan, did not share this belief. Since the disintegration of her parent's marriage she'd only love two things. The first was her long dark hair. The second was how easily she could cut it off and not feel a thing. Tom meets Summer on January 8th. He knows almost immediately she is who he has been searching for. This is a story of boy meets girl, but you should know upfront, this is not a love story."

The ever adorable and charming Joseph Gordon Levitt plays Tom, as he becomes entranced by the hypnotic combination of Summer (Zoe Duschannel, and yes she does sing in this movie as well) boastful confidence, her quirkiness, and alas her fine taste in music. The two enter into a dance of sorts that has Tom captivated, leaving his heart open to the reckless abandon of Summer. The film captures the progression of their relationship and the fine line between friends and lovers, as well as the demise of Tom. Of course as every good film goes, indie included, 500 Days captures a sudo love story complete with a happy ending, although it may not be the Hollywood ending we all are expecting. The ironic ending is when Tom discovers at last that his vision of a dream girl is unmanageable and equally unfathomable, because a real girl "is better than his dream, she's reality."

Please, please, please, go see this film. I beg and plead with you to see it, I promise you will not be unhappy. Everyone will enjoy it, even the guys (the ones I went with to see it to this day will not stop talking about it). And the soundtrack is amazing as well and worth the $10 alone. I promise you won't be dissappointed so rush out now and watch it.
